Privacy and personal information

How Ormskirk After Dark uses your information.

Last updated: 5 October 2026.

Who we are

Ormskirk After Dark is an independent local guide managed by Ormskirk Media in Ormskirk, Lancashire. Ormskirk Media is responsible for the personal information handled through this website. For privacy questions, contact design@ormskirkafterdark.co.uk.

Information we collect

When you use a contact, feedback, event or venue-submission form, we may collect your name, email address, venue or organisation details, website and social links, opening hours, event information and anything else you include in your message.

If you sign up for the OAD Weekend Brief or other OAD email updates through our newsletter form, we collect your email address and MailPoet may record subscription and confirmation information such as the date and time, subscription status and technical information used to demonstrate the signup where available.

Our website hosting and security services may also process limited technical information, such as an IP address, browser type and request logs, where necessary to operate and protect the website.

Why we use it

We use submitted information to answer enquiries, review feedback, verify or update venue listings, consider events and local features, maintain accurate records, prevent spam and misuse, and operate and improve the website. We do not sell personal information.

If you choose to subscribe to the OAD Weekend Brief or other OAD email updates, we use your email address to send the updates you requested.

Our lawful bases

We normally rely on legitimate interests to operate and improve Ormskirk After Dark, respond to enquiries, keep listings accurate and protect the website. Where you ask us to reply, we use the information needed to deal with your request. Where you choose to allow us to quote feedback publicly, we rely on your consent and you may withdraw that consent at any time before publication by contacting us.

For OAD newsletter and marketing emails to individual subscribers, we rely on your consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

Newsletter and email updates

Signing up to the OAD Weekend Brief is separate from sending us an enquiry. We do not add contact-form or venue-submission email addresses to the newsletter simply because someone has contacted OAD. Regular newsletter emails are sent only to addresses that have completed the newsletter signup process.

Our newsletter form uses MailPoet and is configured to send a confirmation email before regular updates are sent. Newsletter emails include an unsubscribe option. If you unsubscribe or object to direct marketing, we will stop using your address for marketing. We may retain a minimal suppression record where necessary to make sure we do not accidentally add you back to a marketing list.

Who receives it

Information is available only to people and service providers who need it to operate Ormskirk After Dark. These may include Hostinger for website hosting and email services, WordPress and OAD website forms, Contact Form 7 for feedback forms, MailPoet for newsletter subscriptions and email delivery management, Akismet for spam screening, Google for consent-controlled analytics, and technical providers used to maintain and secure the site. These providers process information on our behalf or under their own applicable terms. We may also disclose information where required by law.

How long we keep it

Enquiries and form submissions are normally retained for up to 24 months, or longer where an ongoing relationship, unresolved request or legal requirement makes this necessary. OAD does not currently use a separate general form-entry database plugin to archive ordinary enquiries on the website. Published venue information may remain in the directory until it is corrected, replaced or removed.

Newsletter subscription information is kept while you remain subscribed and for as long as reasonably necessary to administer the mailing list and demonstrate or respect your preferences. Unconfirmed MailPoet subscriptions are configured to be deleted after 30 days. If you unsubscribe or object, a minimal suppression record may be retained so that your preference can continue to be respected.

Cookies and analytics

Necessary cookies are used for administration, security, consent management and basic website operation. We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. Google tags are subject to consent controls, and Statistics cookies or storage are used only when you allow the Statistics category in our consent banner. If you deny or later withdraw Statistics consent, we do not use Statistics cookies for that purpose. You can change your choice at any time using the Manage Consent control. See our Cookie Policy for details.

Links to other websites

The directory links to venue websites and social-media pages. Those organisations are responsible for their own websites and privacy practices.

Your rights

You may ask for access to your personal information, request a correction or deletion, restrict or object to certain uses, or raise a concern about how it is handled. You have an absolute right to object to the use of your personal information for direct marketing. Use the Contact page to make a request.

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. For newsletter emails, use the unsubscribe link in the email or contact us.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office through ico.org.uk.
